Topic: Chris’ presentation will outline the journey Alberta Health Services EMS has been on as it relates to paramedic psychological health, where they came from, where they are today, and where they plan to go with help from their national EMS partners.
Speaker: Chris McIntosh
Chris McIntosh is the Senior Advisor for Psychological Health and Safety for Alberta EMS. Sitting as a co-chair on the EMS Psychological Health and Safety Committee, Chris facilitates discussions among a wide continuum of industry stakeholders from frontline paramedics, to clinical providers, to Alberta’s government. Psychological health and safety is simultaneously a simple concept to think about, yet very complex concept to enact because the most important protective element for paramedics is the culture of the service they work in. Accordingly, Chris regularly interfaces with industry stakeholders such as the Mental Health Commission of Canada, Worker’s Compensation Boards, insurance providers, and Alberta’s paramedic Labour Union. While doing all of his regular work, Chris is also enrolled in the Doctor of Social Sciences program at Royal Roads University, after having graduated with a Master’s Degree in Professional Communications in 2016.
