The Paramedic Chiefs of Canada (PCC) and the Paramedic Association of Canada (PAC) participated in an international Summit in Warwick, UK March 22nd and 23rd, 2018. This was a rare opportunity to share the ground breaking work of the Canadian Institute for Public Safety Research and Treatment (CIPSRT), a coast-to-coast-to-coast multi-university team of top Canadian researchers working with Public Safety Personnel executives and key stakeholders on a long-term initiative to identify the tools required to support the recognition, prevention, and treatment of health concerns facing Canadian Public Safety Personnel, their organizations, and their families.
“The Paramedic Chiefs of Canada applaud Minister Goodale for his recent announcement dedicating funds to the Canadian Institute for Public Safety Research & Treatment. The opportunity to share the work of CIPSRT on this international stage has been incredible. The feedback from our global partner associations has been very positive. We are pleased to share the comments from our international colleagues.”
– Randy Mellow, President, Paramedic Chiefs of Canada
“We are pleased to be a part of this important quality evidence-based research consortium that will benefit paramedics across the country.”
– Chris Hood, President, Paramedic Association of Canada
“The National EMS Management Association in the United States has long valued our partnership with the Paramedic Chiefs of Canada. During this past week, it was a privilege to participate in the first Global Paramedic Leadership Summit on Mental Health with you and our other international colleagues. While we clearly have much work ahead of us, it is truly an exciting time to be serving and supporting the mental health and well-being of public safety responders around the globe. It is with gratitude and admiration that we acknowledge the exceptional financial commitment your Government has demonstrated in support of the work of the Canadian Institute for Public Safety Research & Treatment (CIPSRT). It is through the important work of research teams such as those at CIPSRT that we will be able to advance the body of knowledge in provider mental health. We look forward to continued collaboration in service to our patients, communities and each other.”
– Vince Robbins, President, National EMS Managers Association
“On behalf of the Australian Council of Ambulance Authorities and Ambulance New Zealand, I would like to express our congratulations and support for the proposed ground-breaking research hub. The work of CIPSRT, with new dedicated funding, will enhance the well-being of all Public Safety Personnel, their organizations – and their families throughout the world. The presentations at the Global Paramedic Leadership Alliance Mental Health Summit over the last couple of days has clearly demonstrated that we do not have the evidence required to insure best practice is implemented to support the mental health of our emergency service workforce. I am confident this will now be addressed. In closing we would like to congratulate Minister Goodale for dedicating funds to the Canadian Institute for Public Safety Research & Treatment and look forward to the opportunity to contribute to and share in the work of CIPSRT.”
– David Waters, Executive Director Council of Ambulance Authorities (CAA)
“On behalf of the International Roundtable on Community Paramedicine, we would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the Canadian contingent represented at the Global Paramedic Leadership Summit in Warwick, UK. Through the work of CIPSRT, Canadian Paramedicine will now directly benefit from much needed resources to assist with psychological health and wellness. It is evident that Paramedic leaders in Canada have made Paramedic Health and Wellness a top priority.”
– Gary Wingrove, Chair International Roundtable Community Paramedicine (IRCP)
“It has been a great privilege to co-host you and your colleagues at the Global Paramedic Leadership Alliance Mental Health Summit over the last couple of days. We have certainly seen the benefits of shared learning and really appreciate you bringing evidence of such great work being undertaken in Canada. It was fantastic to hear from Dr Nick Carleton of the generous funding received by the CIPSRT, and the excellent work that will result. We now need to convince our government to follow your fine example and provide similar investment here in the UK. t will be fantastic to follow up on progress and hear of the benefits for our staff and patients that will result from your collective initiatives and the sharing of your knowledge.”
– Steve Irving, Executive Officer – Association of Ambulance Chief Executives
